Reflecting on INBOUND 2019

Sara recently attended HubSpot’s INBOUND Conference, and she shared some of her impressions!

Approaching the Boston Convention Center, you instantly get the feeling that you’re in for something epic. Large colorful signs bearing the INBOUND logo sprawl throughout the outside and inside of the Convention Center. When you register, you’re handed a sheet of fun stickers including ones with various pronoun options such as she/her/hers, and they/them/theirs, to include on your name badge, just one of many ways that diversity and inclusion are emphasized at the event.

Next, you are ushered toward a descending escalator but first, are met by a bottleneck of people trying to get the perfect Instagram shot from above the conference – no shade – I assure you, I was one of them.

Once your Instagram story has been squared away, it’s time to explore. The HubSpot team has created a labyrinth of experiences to delight all attendees – from vendors sharing new technology, to creative hang out spaces to charge your phone and catch up on email. Not to mention, Club INBOUND which features a ball pit, a swing, a maze full of mirrors and lights (a.k.a. spaces to create the perfect Boomerang).

But the best part would have to be the impressive lineup of celebrity speakers including Eat Pray Love author Elizabeth Gilbert, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, Shark Tank shark Daymond John, Jennifer Garner, Katie Couric, Janelle Monae, Ellevest CEO Sallie Krawcheck, former CEO of Intuit Brad Smith, Educated author Tara Westover, Chelsea Handler, and Chip and Joanna Gaines just to name a few.

Key takeaways included Elizabeth Gilbert’s tips for living a more creative life such as if you don’t know what your passion is, follow your curiosity instead. Alexis Ohanian and Daymond John shared the importance of being a problem solver and bringing solutions to the table rather than just problems. Sallie Krawcheck shared that her marketing strategy is to have a financial conversation with women, with education being the key topic.

Ultimately, it was an unforgettable week learning from people who are some of the best and brightest in their field. Not to mention being surrounded by many (26,000 to be exact) passionate marketers who are now inspired to head back to their offices and create amazing products and experiences for their clients.
