Developing the most recent iteration of The Village Bank’s website, our goals were to tell the Bank’s story while meeting the needs of visitors to the site through improved navigation, a responsive design and a robust Customer Care Center. We were also looking to improve the experience for members of the Bank’s team responsible for updating the site by introducing WordPress, a user-friendly Content Management System (CMS).

Following advice from the American Bankers Association (ABA) that banks start incorporating “WCAG 2.0 AA compliance in vendor contracts,” we worked with SiteImprove to audit and monitor the website for potential accessibility issues. We also introduced new accessibility tools, available through WordPress, which allow visitors to control some of the look of the site.

The result is a website that employees and customers have given high praise, and has positioned the Bank for the future.

The new site “responds” to the size of a visitor’s screen, adjusting to maximize usability and readability.

The home page includes a rate slider, custom icons and easy account access. An accessibility toolbar gives visitors control over font size, contrast and other elements. Each section features local photography, reinforcing the Bank’s connection to the community. Videos featuring employees of the Bank are hosted on YouTube, and distributed throughout the site.
